TOUR DESCRIPTION
This travel package is for those seeking a true Muslim-friendly holiday in Sri Lanka. Journey includes following cities Kandy, Dambulla, Sigiriya and Nuwara Eliya, with unique experiences hand-picked for the Muslim travelers. Sri Lanka is a diverse destination with an amazing range of experiences for such a small island. The recorded history of the Island dates back 2500 years when an exiled prince from north India drifted into the shores of Sri Lanka to establish the first known civilization here. For a small island, Sri Lanka can boast of a diverse landscape of golden beaches, rolling hills, forests and lush tea plantations.
Kandy is Sri Lanka’s second biggest city and the capital of the central province. The busy town is situated in a valley at an elevation of 600 meters, inside a wide loop of the Mahaweli River and is surrounded by hills covered with tropical vegetation. Home to the Sri Dalada Maligawa the beautiful temple that houses the tooth relic of Lord Buddha. Kandy is also a popular stop during July/August when the annual Esala Perehera (holy festival) takes to the streets of the city.
Nuwara Eliya is one of the coldest area in Sri Lanka, also known as “The Little England” due to its colonial British cottages and lush hill trees.

Day 1

Airport (CMB) – Dambulla

Welcome to Sri Lanka, “The Pearl of the Indian Ocean”! On arrival at Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport, meet your private Dream Lanka Tours chauffeur-guide and and be driven to Kandy (about 41/2 hours drive). Following activities on Day one depend on your arrival Schedule. En route we visit to Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. The Elephant Orphanage is a sanctuary for over 100 retired, abused or orphaned elephants. Visitors from all over the world come to see these magnificent animals. At times, there are also some small babies who have been born into the herd. The daily highlight is the walk from the Orphanage to take the herd down to the river to bathe the elephants. The best time to visit is the feeding time from 0930-1000 hrs and 1330-1400 hrs and the bathing time from 1000-1030 hrs and 1400-1430 hrs when all the elephants are taken to the river. After visit Pinnawala we continue to Dambulla Rock temple, built by King Walagambahu during the 1st Century B.C. Dambulla is a UNESCO world heritage site. There are more than 80 documented caves in the surrounding and the paintings are done on the ceiling. There are a total of 153 Buddha statues 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of god and goddess. In addition, the city has the largest rose quartz mountain range in the entire Asia and the ironwood forest known as Namal Uyana. Now, the big quartz rose mountain is millions of years old and it encircled by the ancient ironwood forest trees. Also, the grand rock fortress of Sigiriya is another major attraction, which is worth checking. (Entrance fees to sites not included in the package).

Day 2

Dambulla – Sigiriya – Dambulla

After early breakfast at the hotel, check out and proceed to Sigiriya, depending on arriving at Sigiriya will commence with the visit to one of the wonders of the ancient world -the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Sigiriya Rock was once an ancient Castle used both as a palace and a fortress and was created by the great King Kasyapa. The magnificent rock fortress of Sigiriya is visible for miles from all directions and dominates the surrounding plain. The Sigiriya Complex consists of the central rock, which arises abruptly 200 meters above the surrounding. The beautiful Sigiriya comes up with a full gallery of fifth-century paintings and canvas finished with landscape gardens that are certainly matchless (If any entrance fees to sites not included in the package).

Day 3

Dambulla – Polonnaruwa – Minneriya – Dambulla

After early breakfast at Hotel, commence to Polonnaruwa, the 2nd capital city in ancient Sri Lanka. The Cholas from India that invade the country decide to build their empire and make Polonnaruwa their capital city. This the year 1055AD a courageous and strong-minded Sinhala king from the southern part of Sri Lanka overpowered the Indian invaders and took over the capital that later fell into the hands of Magha a notorious prince from Kalinga of India who was more intent on looting than ruling. Today the ancient ruined city of Polonnaruwa, a site that is so popular and much visited, contains ruins of the both Sinhala (Sri Lankan) and Indian culture. Minneriya spreading over 8800 hectares, this is a sanctuary for elephants, if you’re up for serious rumble in the jungle, then you need to visit Minneriya. This National park is home to herds of deer and ample birdlife, but its spotlight remains between swaying trunks & flapping ears. Here you can marvel at the elephants feeding in their natural habitat. With over 300 elephants gathered, the park has rightfully earned its reputation as a magnet for wildlife enthusiasts across the globe, rest of the day is at your leisure. May to October is the best period to visit Minneriya National Park in view of the famous Gathering of the wild elephants (If any entrance fees to sites not included in the package).

Day 4

Dambulla – Matale – Kandy

After early breakfast at the hotel, check out and proceed to Kandy, En-route in Matale, yet another bounty of nature’s abundance with scattered mountain ranges decorated with blankets of cascading water and captivating landscapes of fertile greenery. History of Matale is mottled with tales of heroism, such as the Matale Rebellion of 1848, a battle that led to the siege of the British Garrison in Fort McDowell Aluviharaya Rock Temple located 3KM from the town, pouched between boulders and cliffs, where the teachings of the Buddha were transcribed into text on Ola (palm) leaves. Riverston situated approximately 30KM from the town of Matale, a beautiful mountain range, which is part of the Knuckles Mountain. Described as the ‘mini world’s end’, the Riverston peak with a sheer drop of 300 meters, offers a grand view of the central hills, the Knuckles mountain range and beautifully terraced paddy fields in the Thelgama valley. Another attraction is Pitawala Pathana close by to Riverston, yet another picturesque site of mountains, waterfalls and natural pools.
Kandy is Sri Lanka’s hill capital, stronghold of the Sinhala Kings, is our most beautiful town. Before check-in we visit to Meera Makam Mosque for prayers (Meera Makam Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Sri Lanka’s hill city Kandy. The land for the mosque was gifted to a Muslim Courtier who served the King of Kandy, Kirti Sri Rajasingha and was completed in 1864 by a society of Muslims living in the city) and also meet with the local community & other places of religious interest to other faiths, which reveals the religious harmony in the country. Rest of the evening is at your leisure or we can schedule a Sri Lanka Kandy Cultural Show Evening you will visit the Cultural show (If any entrance fees to sites not included in the package).

Day 5

Kandy – Nuwara Eliya

After early breakfast at Hotel, commence to Nuwara Eliya, en route we will visit Royal Botanical Gardens. This beautiful flower Eden is restored with over 300 different varieties of orchids, other spices, medicinal plants and Palm trees. Every year more than 1.2 million people are enchanted by the beauty of these 147-acre flower gardens.
We proceed to Nuwara Eliya, fondly called Little England in Sri Lanka. Full of rustic colonial beauty and grace, this hilly refuge is one of the dreamiest settings on the island. En route witness the picturesque mountain ranges and breathtaking waterfalls. You can also visit a working tea factory where the slow-growing tea bushes of this highland region produce some of the world’s finest Orange Pekoe tea. In Nuwara Eliya visit Al-Kabeer Grand Mosque which is a famous mosque in Nuwara Eliya for prayers and also meet with the local community. Day 6

Nuwara Eliya – Colombo

After an early breakfast proceed to Colombo view the St Clair’s and Devon falls also visit the location where the Oscar winning movie “Bridge on the River Kwai” was filmed en route. After arriving to Colombo visit to the Dewatagaha Mosque at Town Hall (The Dewatagaha mosque is one of the more prominent mosques in Colombo – its lovely exterior is almost an iconic part of the architecture near Town Hall. It is also partly a shrine to a Saint from the 19th century – Shaikh Usman Waliyullah – and Muslims and non-Muslims alike visit to pay their respects) and optional visit to the Jami-Ul-Alfar Mosque at Pettah for prayers and also meet with the local community.
